Seminary: Culture and Context
Explore a theological approach to ministering the gospel in your own local setting. The module will help you to engage your context and popular culture through interviews, local research and interacting with popular culture products, while offering ways of interpreting what you find through a theologically shaped worldview.

The module aims to
- Outline a biblical understanding of culture and worldview
- Introduce students to different models of Christian cultural engagement and how to assess them
- Introduce students to the concept of subversive fulfillment and how to exegete different worldviews, their context, and cultural artefacts
- Provide a biblical understanding of culture and Christian engagement in culture
- Build confidence in using a biblical worldview to exegete alternative worldviews or cultural artefacts
- Develop local approaches for Christian cultural engagement
Each lesson includes
- A set text to aid and deepen your learning
- A high-level introduction to key truths that shape a biblical understanding of culture and context
- Small research projects for you to carry out locally
- Reflection and application exercises to help you apply what you learn

Instructors
Dr. Tim Chester
Tim Chester is a pastor of Grace Church in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, a faculty member of Crosslands. He is the author of over 30 books and commentaries including You Can Change and A Meal with Jesus, as well as being co-author of Total Church.
Dr. Dan Strange
Dan Strange is Acting Principal at Oak Hill Theological College, lecturing in Culture, Religion and Public Theology and part of the Crosslands faculty. With a PhD from Bristol University, he leads a North London church and is married to Elly with seven children. His most recent monograph is For Their Rock is Not as Our Rock: An Evangelical Theology of Religions.
