More Details

The Kingdom Has Come course advances the truth that the kingdom of God has been inaugurated by Jesus but not yet consummated. The course will seek to provide an understanding of Jesus’ preaching and teaching ministry especially as it relates to the kingdom of God. Students will gain a deeper understanding of this issue by closely examining key biblical passages, answering provocative questions, and considering sermons and writings from the ministry of John Piper and other theologians. The course will conclude with some reflections on the application of kingdom theology to the church’s ministry and mission today.

  • Jesus teaching on the kingdom
  • The kingdom and the rule of Satan
  • The gospel and mystery of the kingdom
  • The presence of the kingdom today
  • Kingdom power and the church’s ministry

Course Format

A series of 6 lessons that each include an introduction, lesson objectives, inductive Bible study, critical interaction with secondary sources, comprehension questions, video and audio content, and discussion questions if studying with a group.

What do I need to take this course?
You will need an internet connection that allows you to view videos and an English version of the Bible (preferably the English Standard Version).

Should I take this course if I’ve already listened John Piper’s sermons on the kingdom?
Even if you have listened to John Piper’s sermons on the kingdom and have been helped by them, you will still gain much from this course. The course readings, study questions, and multimedia content will challenge you to think more biblically and will explore aspects of John Piper’s theology that you have not encountered before. This course provides a Christian Hedonist perspective on the kingdom of God and will force you to wrestle deeply with the Biblical texts on this topic.

For what setting was this course designed?
This course can be taken as an independent study but also provides discussion questions and integrative assignments for an informal or formal group study. The course would work well in a rigorous Sunday school environment, as part of a small group study, within a discipleship or training context, or in an academic program.

Can I take this course as a part of a group?
We encourage anyone taking a course from us to do it within a local church context. Churches may use our courses as the theological content for group studies. Questions are included in each lesson to facilitate discussion.
